Description

This striking fragment of Spectrolite showcases the vivid internal fire that has made Finland’s material world-renowned among collectors. Electric blues, deep violets, bright yellows, and vibrant reds shift across the surface as light moves — a full-spectrum display created by exceptionally developed internal layers.

Unlike standard labradorite, Spectrolite is prized for its stronger saturation and broader color range, offering a dramatic, almost painterly play of light within an otherwise dark feldspar body.

The natural edges and polished face create a beautiful contrast between raw geological origin and refined presentation, making this specimen equally suited for display, photography, or optical phenomena inclusion in an elite mineral collection.

Dimensions & Weight

  • 1.5” x 0.6”

  • 10 g

Metaphysical Properties

Spectrolite is often associated with transformation, insight, and energetic protection. Many collectors feel drawn to its shifting colors as a symbol of perspective and hidden depth, making it popular for meditation spaces and intentional display pieces. Its grounding feldspar base is said to balance the intensity of its vibrant visual energy.

Collector’s Notes

Finland is the only place in the world with the proper geological conditions to form the elite type of labradorite known as Spectrolite. Because of this, there are strict mining regulations. Less than 50 kilograms are allowed to mined per year, per supplier. Considering that there are only two suppliers in the world, that’s only 220lbs distributed per year for the entire world.

Finnish Spectrolite is a distinct variety of labradorite discovered during wartime excavations in Finland and is valued for displaying a wider, more saturated spectrum of labradorescence than material from other localities. Pieces showing multiple strong color zones — especially blues paired with warm tones — are particularly sought after by collectors of optical minerals.

Highlights

  • Genuine Spectrolite from Finland

  • Strong multi-color labradorescence (blue, yellow, red, and violet flashes)

  • Natural-edge specimen with hand polished display face

  • Extremely Rare Mineral

Mineralogy

Spectrolite is a variety of labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar mineral characterized by microscopic exsolution lamellae that refract light to create labradorescence. The exceptionally well-developed lamellar structure in Finnish material allows for intense spectral color play across a broad wavelength range, resulting in its signature rainbow-like flashes.
