Blueberry Fluorite with Quartz — Huanggangliang Mine
Description
A beautifully balanced “blueberry” fluorite specimen from the famous Huanggangliang Mine in Inner Mongolia, China, featuring deep cobalt-blue botryoidal fluorite cascading over white quartz with translucent pale blue-green fluorite edges. The contrast between the dark bubbly fluorite and icy crystalline matrix creates a dramatic natural composition that feels both organic and bold at the same time.
Unlike the sharp cubic fluorites commonly associated with many Chinese localities, Huanggangliang material developed a distinctive botryoidal to rounded growth habit that has made these specimens instantly recognizable among collectors. Under strong lighting, subtle translucency and internal color variation emerge through the darker exterior, adding depth and complexity to the specimen.
This specimen showcases the classic rounded fluorite growth habit that made Huanggangliang material so recognizable among collectors.
Although compact in size, this piece has exceptional visual complexity and display presence. Every angle reveals a different interaction between the rounded fluorite formations, snowy quartz, and translucent fluorite crystals.
Dimensions & Weight
1.6” x 1.4” x 1.25”
90g
Metaphysical Properties
Blue fluorite is often associated with mental clarity, intuition, and emotional balance. Many believe it helps organize scattered thoughts while encouraging calm communication and focus. Quartz is traditionally viewed as an amplifying mineral, believed to strengthen and harmonize the energy of surrounding crystals. Together, fluorite and quartz are often appreciated for both their energetic balance and striking natural beauty.
Collector’s Notes
The Huanggangliang Mine produced some of China’s most recognizable fluorite specimens, particularly these unusual rounded “blueberry” formations that differ dramatically from the sharp cubic fluorites found at many other localities. High-quality examples with strong saturation, druzy associations, and sculptural aesthetics have become increasingly collectible over time.
Material from the Huanggangliang Mine has become increasingly difficult to source as mining activity at the locality has largely ceased. Fine specimens from older finds continue to gain attention among collectors due to their unique rounded growth habit and increasingly limited availability.
Highlights
Rare “Blueberry Fluorite” habit
Huanggangliang Mine, Inner Mongolia, China locality
Excellent color and contrast
Good luster
Contrasting translucent blue-green zones
Increasingly difficult material to acquire
Mineralogy
Mineral: Fluorite with Quartz
Chemical Formula: CaF₂ + SiO₂
Crystal System: Isometric (Fluorite) / Hexagonal (Quartz)
Luster: Vitreous to submetallic
Transparency: Translucent to transparent
