Finland Spectrolite (labradorite from Finland)

$48.00

Description

This larger Spectrolite slice from Finland displays a dramatic landscape of color, with flashes of deep firey reds and oranges, deep indigo, violet and bright greens and yellows, unfolding across the surface like brushstrokes of light.

The hand polished face allows the labradorescence to shift and bloom as the angle changes, revealing the complex internal structure that makes Finnish Spectrolite so prized among collectors.

The darker feldspar background creates a strong contrast, allowing the brighter spectral flashes to feel almost illuminated from within. With its balanced proportions and strong visual presence, this specimen bridges the gap between minerals and art — equally suited for display in a curated cabinet or a top tier collection.

Dimensions & Weight

  • 1.75” x 1.3”

  • 28 g

Metaphysical Properties

Spectrolite is often associated with intuition, transformation, and protection. Its shifting colors symbolize layers of awareness and perspective, making it a favorite for spaces dedicated to creativity or reflection. Many collectors appreciate it as a stone that invites observation — revealing more detail the longer it is viewed.

Collector’s Notes

Finland is the only place in the world with the proper geological conditions to form the elite type of labradorite known as Spectrolite. Because of this, there are strict mining regulations. Less than 50 kilograms are allowed to mined per year, per supplier. Considering that there are only two suppliers in the world, that’s only 220lbs distributed per year for the entire world.

Finnish Spectrolite is a distinct variety of labradorite discovered during wartime excavations in Finland and is valued for displaying a wider, more saturated spectrum of labradorescence than material from other localities. Pieces showing multiple strong color zones — especially blues paired with warm tones — are particularly sought after by collectors of optical minerals.

Highlights

  • Authentic Spectrolite from Finland

  • Strong multicolor labradorescence

  • Extremely rare

  • Hand polished

  • Ideal for collectors focused on optical and iridescent minerals

Mineralogy

Spectrolite is a variety of labradorite within the plagioclase feldspar group. Its iridescent color play, known as labradorescence, results from microscopic exsolution lamellae that refract incoming light. Finnish Spectrolite is renowned for its exceptionally developed internal structure, producing a wider and more saturated color spectrum than most labradorite localities.
